Maxim Oreshkin: Barriers for Russian and Kyrgyz Businesses to be Removed

03.10.2017

Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Oreshkin held a working meeting with Kyrgyzstan Minister of Economy Artem Novikov. The Ministers discussed issues of developing Russia-Kyrgyzstan bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the counties’ interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, and support for exports and investments.
When opening the meeting, Maxim Oreshkin thanked his colleague for the visit and congratulated him on his recent appointment as Minister.
"The interaction of our two agencies takes place within the framework of the Intergovernmental Russian-Kyrgyz Commission for Trade and Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation, of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," said Maxim Oreshkin.
All this helped boost the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. As a result, mutual trade grew by almost 30% in January-July 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 and amounted to US$836.5 million. Exports increased by one third up to US$743.9 million, while imports rose by 13.3% to 92.6 million dollars. The countries’ relationships within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union contributed to growth in Kyrgyzstan’s supplies of food products and agricultural raw materials by 2.4 times.
At the same time, the significant path to cooperation between the ministries is elimination of existing barriers for developing mutual trade, the head of Russian Ministry of Economic Development stressed.
A separate topic for discussion was the Russian-Kyrgyz Foundation for Interregional Cooperation.
During the conversation, Kyrgyz Minister of Economy focused on issues of investment growth and expressed hope for regular contacts and active cooperation between the economic agencies in the two countries.
"Strategic relationships with and support from the Russian side are pivotal for us," Artem Novikov emphasized.
