China waiting for beginning of talks on Eurasian economic partnership deal with Russia

China is looking forward to an early launch of negotiations on the Eurasian economic partnership agreement with Russia, Wang Kaixuan, Deputy Director of the Eurasian Affairs Department at the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, told reporters.

He recalled that the parties had completed work on the agreement’s feasibility. "Now it has to be endorsed by the specialized agencies. China has already completed its internal procedures. We are now waiting for our Russian counterparts, after that we can immediately start the negotiations. I believe that will happen soon," he said answering a question from TASS.

Wang Kaixuan added that it was too early to talk about the tentative deadlines for signing the document. He noted that China expected the agreement to cover as many areas as possible.

Last June, Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin and Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan signed an agreement on the technical and economic feasibility of the Eurasian economic partnership agreement in Beijing. Its signing will make it possible to considerably liberalize trade in services, investment activities, cooperation on the intellectual property issue, e-commerce, government procurement and other areas.
