New approach to solving long-time problems: EAEU to form operational committee to settle disputes over movement of goods across borders

The Eurasian Economic Commission has drafted proposals for forming an operational committee (a high-level working group) to settle differences and resolve disputed issues related to the movement of goods across the borders of the Eurasian Economic Union countries. The relevant draft disposition of the EEC Council was considered on July 6 at a consultation involving the Chairman of the EEC Board and its members.

Earlier, the EEC Council members noted that new tools were needed to remove barriers in the Union internal market and supported the EEC Board’s proposal to create a committee.

The consultation has mentioned that the Union countries had sent lists of potential committee candidates, but not all States had yet submitted proposals to the "road map". However, the situation at the borders remains difficult and we need to act decisively.

The "road map" activities should be divided into two stages: priority measures that should be implemented even now and medium-term measures. The operational committee will enable us to elaborate prompt decisions and resolve many problematic issues in real time," stressed Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the EEC Board.

The need to administer import of goods from third countries, information exchange between the Member States, identifying sanctioned goods, approving the risk profile and applying navigation seals were noted by the consultation attendees among urgent measures.

The finalized document is planned to be considered at the EEC Council’s meeting.
