EEC and business discuss prospects for developing organic agriculture

09.09.2020

The Eurasian Economic Commission, jointly with the authorized governing bodies and representatives of the business community of the Eurasian Economic Union countries, "is actively addressing issues of ensuring the functioning of the Eurasian organic market and the forming of the EAEU law in this field".This was stated by Artak Kamalyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture, during a working visit to the M2 Shulgino Organic Farm in the Volokolamsk district of the Moscow region.

A draft roadmap has been elaborated that provides for measures aimed at ensuring free movement of organic products in the EAEU and their access to third markets.

"We are ready for a dialogue with all interested participants in this market to develop a legal framework for regulating the production and circulation of organic products in the Union," the EEC Minister said.

The actions being taken will promote heightening the interest of the Union countries’ population in the healthy eating culture, increasing the volume of mutual trade in organic products, soil conservation and green agriculture.

During the visit, the Commission’s Minister held a meeting with Maksim Protasov, Head of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Russian Quality System” (Roskachestvo), based on which the National Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture Products was created, and Mikhail Bakhtiarov, President of the Major Holding and Founder of Shulgino LLC.

The meeting attendees got acquainted with some technologies of organic vegetable production in greenhouses and inspected stock breeding complexes and other facilities of M2 Shulgino Farm involved in the organic business.

For reference

M2 Shulgino Farm has 4,500 hectares of its own land, more than 1,500 dairy cows, 800 sheep, 500 goats, 15,000 broilers and laying hens. The farm produces about 5 tons of milk, 900 kg of manufactured meat and 1,500 eggs per day.

The farm was certified in 2018 by the German accredited company Kiwa in accordance with the requirements of EU Regulation No. 834/2007 for plant production as well as advanced list of other products manufactured on the farm. In March 2020, M2 Shulgino Farm was certified in accordance with the Russian legislation as per GOST 33980-2016 and entered into the Register of Organic Producers of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation as a producer of organic vegetables, fruits, meat and dairy products.
